I Want to Wear the Same Thing Every Day and Never Suffer From Decision Fatigue Again

Fashion is now a virtual-only interest

I like clothes and stuff as much as the next person. Like every female growing up in the 90s, I loved flipping through glossy pages of magazines, teaching me 9 essential steps to confidence. It was a big part of me — dressing up, thinking about it, and imagining potential creations — for as long as I can remember.

The feel of fabrics, especially the netty ones like tulle and organza, were my ASMR. Colors more vibrant than the rainbow attracted me, more than a layered cake. And unique pairings that help project one's personality piqued my interest. The best part was the rush of unlimited possibilities.

Back in the day, I could spend a whole day at the mall and not complain. I gaped at mannequins and sifted through rows of tops to find the near-perfect one. Who doesn't want to end up with their hands full of shopping bags?

However, my body and person don't make for a good canvas. I can list a multitude of reasons why: The mannequins are size zero, and I am a US 16. Comfort drives me more than style. And fashion is not a lazy person's undertaking. But none of them sufficiently explain my growing distaste for thinking about what to wear and the urge to go the Zuckerberg route.

I recently extremely downsized my closet, ticking off a two-year-old task from my to-do list. Giving away almost 70% of what I own was a satisfying feeling, but it wasn't enough. I want things that I can't live without, and that's it.

The only reason to stop purging was the need to take time to make crucial decisions. Otherwise, I would have burned the whole thing down.

My everyday aesthetic is comfortable — to the extent that I don't even feel the items' presence on my body. Most parts of me never want anything different. And I could go through life without seeing a fancy dress again.
