We all have superpowers.

One of my superpowers is that I can run, pretty much anytime. I can pull on a pair of trainers and whatever other kit is lying around, and decide to go running. It’s not something that I ever need to…

A Monday Morning.

It was a Monday morning, one of the countless mornings I've made the same trip to school; the exact same route. I wasn't sure of the time but the sun was still trying to turn the cool morning into a hostile one. I was in the window seat on a bus, this gave me a front row seat to the show the sun was putting on. I didn't pay attention to the people in it, well except the woman who sat next to me. She was in a black gown, had light makeup on her face, with red lipstick and she looked like a busybody. When she entered the bus, I argued with myself whether to greet or not to greet her. I didn't feel it. I had one goal in mind; get to school, meet the woman I needed to meet and sort out the issue I needed to sort out before the end of the day. The latter triumphed; I ignored her.

Few minutes into the drive from Garden Park to IMSU Junction, I heard a loud, sharp sound from behind. It sounded like something between a grunt and a groan. I wasn't sure what it was. After the sound, a series of gasps and loud breaths followed. The woman next to me turned around and said,

'whatever the news is, God knows best'.

She continued saying encouraging words to someone behind me. I got curious and stole a glance behind and I saw a woman, she was a shade lighter than me, looked like she was somewhere between her late 30s or early 40s. She had a red top on, no makeup and there was a white earpiece plugged into her phone. At first, I thought she was on a call, but the call had ended, the person had already delivered the message.

I stole another glance behind; she was trying so hard to keep her breathing under control. I looked at her face, she looked so sad. She looked like her whole world had crumbled right before her eyes. I could feel it. I'd had a few too many moments like that. I'd had a face like that. I felt so sorry for her. I heard the driver announce my stop; I paid and got ready to alight the bus. I heard her say in a shaky voice that she was getting down at my stop too and I felt a strong urge to pay for her fair. I wasn't sure how that would look so I didn't.

The bus stopped, I got down quickly, fighting the temptation to steal one last glance at her. I kept my head straight and focused on the road. I walked to school wondering who she'd lost and more importantly if she would heal from the loss, while the faces on the road painted different emotions of a sunny Monday morning.
