How the Zion Williamson effect is driving ticket sales at Duke

Just how effective is the “Zion Effect?” Just look at the ticket sales for Duke home games, and you’ll see just how big Zion Williamson has become. Compiled by Vivid Seats, one of the leading ticket resellers in the country, more and more fans are traveling to see Zion play the role of Superman in college basketball’s most hallowed hall — Cameron Indoor Stadium.

In fact, fans have traveled an average distance of 469 miles, just to see the man among boys put on a spectacular show. The “Zion Effect” isn’t just limited to Durham, however. Another huge barometer of a player’s star power is how well his/her team draws on the road.

And, my friends, Zion is a road draw the likes of which college basketball has rarely seen.

Duke has long sold out every arena that they visit, but fans are trying their best to get their hands on tickets to see Duke, from the college student to the famous. Jay-Z traveled all the way from Brooklyn to Pittsburgh to see Zion dominate the Pitt Panthers, and LeBron James has also been spotted checking out Zion.

Even Floyd Mayweather was in Duke to check out Zion when the Blue Devils played rival N.C. State Wolfpack.

Tickets to see Zion in action has jumped 82 percent — 82 percent — from 2017–18, and many fans are turning to resellers to get their hands on those golden Duke tickets, to see the chosen one light up college basketball scoreboards.
