How the Black Lives Matter Movement Changed the Way We Fight for Our Rights

I believe that this source is very credible, in fact, I would recommend this source to all who needed somewhere credible that is not affiliated with a respected news source. From the author, to the website, to even the article itself it is all credible in the way they present their evidence.

The website, ALCU.com, otherwise known as the website for American Civil Liberties Union, has a goal to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person by the Bill of Rights of the U.S. Constitution and laws of the United States. What they write and choose to publicize are credible and useful when the information on the subject is needed.

The author, Frank Leon Roberts, is a teacher at New York University where he teaches ethnic studies specifically on Africana Studies. He is known for writing and being the founder of the Black Lives Matter Movement Syllabus, which basically entails history, where the movement started, where it is going, and what it has begun in the social, and ethnic life of today’s society.

The facts brought up in the article bring up many points as he continues to “fight the good fight” for equality. A main point as I stated earlier they were fighting for more human rights than civil liberties they deserve. “Black Lives Matter has always been more of a human rights movement rather than a civil rights movement. BLM’s focus has been less about changing specific laws and more about fighting for a fundamental reordering of society wherein Black lives are free from systematic dehumanization.” (Leon). A fact more than opinion if you include all the work they pushed for to not be wrongfully murdered and mistreated. A bigger impact they had as I stated earlier was their cultural impact they brought to the scene. Whether it was from the NFL’s Colin Kaepernick speaking out to cultural icons like rappers and actors, they all had a voice that influences the next generation.

This website and article are both credible as it gets when it is not a university or government site. The author and the website’s accolades are credited with their work.
