On Educating David

david = educate(subject = “David”)

david.Goal = “Change The World”

david.Mindset = “Hated”

davids.Begin(start = True)

David was a young boy. David hated school, as some young Davids do. To him, every day in school was another better spent chasing Susies or playing with other Davids. David became a young man. David was athletic. His grades faltered but his health did not. Sadly, David couldn’t go to college on fitness alone, so he didn’t. David became a working man. He found a Susie to love. He got a physical labor job. He worked hard and earned his keep. David became an old man. He was proud; his physique had granted him survival. David lived a simple, happy life. David did not change the world.

“He was stupid, no learnin’. Needs to be smart to have won.”

“Perhaps. Keep the goal in mind. Let’s begin again.”

david.Mindset = “Didn’t Mind”

davids.Begin(start = True)

David was a young boy. David didn’t mind school, as many young Davids don’t. To him, school was a place to learn about letters and numbers and talk to Susies or other Davids. David became a young man. David was average. His numbers formed equations and his letters formed essays but neither were brilliant. His study time was spent courting Susies or befriending other Davids. David became an ordinary man. He had a Susie to love, a job with numbers and letters, and some ordinary Davids to call friends. David became an old man. He lived an easy, happy life. David did not change the world.

“That ain’t right. He wasn’t dumb. He was educated. How come he ain’t won?”

“Interesting, isn’t it? Let’s begin again.”

david.Mindset = “Loved”

davids.Begin(start = True)

David was a young boy. David loved school, as few young Davids do. To him, school was a place to master numbers and letters. David became a young man. David was bright. His numbers formed equations and his letters formed essays, all of which were brilliant. His study time was spent studying. David became a successful man. His job involved both his equations and his essays. He lacked sociability but that didn’t bother him. David became an old man. He worked hard his whole life and, consequently, earned success. He was happy with his accomplishments, his life’s work. David did not change the world.

“That can’t be; he loved school! He’d won ‘fore he started. Somethin’s wrong with the workins.”

“Nothing’s wrong. David alone can’t change the world. Change our subject. Let’s begin again.

davids = educate(subject = “Davids”)

davids.Mindsets = [“Loved”, “Hated”, “Indifferent”]

davids.Begin(start = True, )

Davids are young boys. To them, feelings towards school vary, but they have one quality in common: Davids want happiness. Davids become young men. They are smart or dumb, strong or weak, social or friendless, but Davids aren’t separate. Individual education doesn’t matter because they have one goal: Davids want happiness. Davids become men. They do many different things. They labor, use numbers and letters, use equations and essays, have Susies, lack Susies. Davids do many things and Davids are happy. Some use school, some do not. Davids become old men. They look back on their life (the world’s life by another name) and see they make themselves happy. Davids change the world.

“What’s it mean? Education ain’t matter?”

“Education isn’t the cause, rather a means. If changing the world is our goal then we need a happy public, not educated individuals. The education is immaterial. When all the Davids in the world are happy, and all the Susies too, the world, as it turns, follows in turn.”
